As part of the Art Walk Porty festival in September, Thrift consisted of four days featuring a curated program of participatory events, workshops, live art, and conversations focused on Portobello’s local food environment. Collaborating with artists, designers, and scientists, we explored food sustainability—how we grow, harvest, eat, and compost our food, and how this impacts the surrounding landscape. In addition to curating the program, we designed and built a solar dehydrator to showcase alternative ways of preserving food and reducing waste. We also created an installation of beach windbreaks to facilitate workshops and talks, painted by artist Sherry Wang.
