Glasgow is a city built for 1 million people, today the population is only 600,00. The introduction of the car to the city coincided with the shift away from the industrial city towards a service lead economy. Populations become mobile and unfixed to their
geographic location of labour. People started to migrate to the suburbs, commuting in for work, resulting in a doughnut city. This left a fragmented city littered with vacant and derelict land as the inner city became depopulated.
